The Bells

He stared at walls unfolding –
arms uncaring –
lips unmoving –
trembling at the sight of her –
seeing glowing embers burning deep within her.

Her words belied the feelings lying dormant for so long –
locked forever in her heart –
never said –
never whispered –
dead.

Her fingers longed to caress his gentle hair –
soft and flowing –
holding –
loving –
warm.

Her body tingled –
fighting her mind –
knowing it wrong –
hating –
wishing.

He burned –
hoped –
longed –
hurt.

They swam in emotions –
non-existent –
and floated through the night –
falsely caring –
faintly wishing –
desperately clinging –
to happiness –
to love –
to the beat of synchronized pulses –
to life.

Their lives melded and broke with the chime of the dawn around them –
lost –
and found –
all at once –
forever –
but never again.
