A Toast to Today
You and she walked into the room –
Hand in hand –
Smile in smile –
Eyes in eyes –
Oblivious to all about you.
My heart jumped into my throat –
Ripped apart –
Tore my lungs –
Choked my mind –
Bleeding into my drink.
The pain began to swell within me –
Clenching fists –
Biting lips –
Holding cries –
Walls crumbling down on me.
I lunged.
I recoiled.
I sighed.
I died.
My hands unfolded –
Letting go –
Driving away –
Kissing goodbye –
A world completely changed.
Forever. No more. Together.
Always. Apart.
Inside. Outside.
In between.
Life. Death.
Hello. Goodbye.
